The Living Years(Season 1, Episode 11)
The Scotts are in family therapy at Debra's behest. Dan immediately shows contempt for the whole process, Nathan is lethargic, and Debra seems completely powerless to do anything about it. The session quickly ends, and Nathan bails when his parents began to argue about which one he should go with( I smell a custody battle brewing).
Lucas and Brooke seem doomed to fail as a couple. They got nothin' in common! Lucas wants to spend all his time at the bookstore checking out William Faulkner, and Brooke wants to strip naked and frolic around in a stranger's hot tub. That second thing doesn't sound too bad, but come on. It's not just about that. And Brooke ain't dumb..she sees how much Lucas and Peyton do have in common.
Lucas meets Peyton's father Larry. Larry spends a lot of time at sea, apparently working for an oil company, though his exact job is not specified in this episode. Lucas and Larry have a lot in common(such as the love of those Faulkner books). Peyton seems content to have a father that can provide for her financially rather than emotionally, but her latest cartoon in THUD magazine suggests otherwise. Larry must leave for another job, and he trusts in Lucas to watch out for Peyton...
Nathan is considering quitting the team for good. His decision is bolstered when he visits Keith at the auto shop. Keith reveals that he quit basketball himself as a teen because Dan made it, well....not fun.
Nathan blows off practice and convinces Haley to join him. Before you know it, Nathan and tutor girl are getting drunk on vodka at Dan's beach house. The party ends when Dan shows up and Haley honks all over him in the car. Ewww.
Haley gets a wicked hangover and an F on her latest test. But she's still an A in my book!(That's all I got)
Dan and Nathan have a heart to heart. Dan tells Nathan he loves him regardless of the decision Nathan makes(we'll see). Nathan officially quits the team. Whitey is sad(dammit).
Jake and Peyton are going to be a thing(?) It looks that way.
Lucas voice over!
"And the little prince said "Grownups never understand anything by
themselves and it is tiresome for children to always be explaining
things to them."
