The Same Deep Water As You Are(Season 4, Episode 1)

This season begins rather strangely: we get a voice over from Lucas reintroducing himself to the audience. He helpfully does this for Haley, too(referring to her as "his best friend, a married high school senior." ) We get more of these throughout the episode for every other character. 

Karen and Lucas arrive on the bridge to meet screaming Haley. Lucas jumps in the water and manages to pull Cooper out of the limo. Not bad for someone with heart disease and no spleen. Nathan managed to save Rachel, and the two of them are unconscious on shore. Nathan and Rachel are fine, but Cooper...let's just say it was his turn to ride the coma train.

Dan is still staring at his wall with the ominous graffiti when the cops arrive to tell him about Nathan. He's still being taunted by ghost boy Keith. Ghost boy Keith is taller, and has a deeper voice now! Guess the actor hit puberty during the off season.

Dan unleashes his fury on Debra at the hospital. He puts her in a choke hold and vows revenge on her for trying to make him extra crispy. Debra goes home and proceeds to get bombed on  a secret stash of pills. She's backsliding into her addiction! The cops want a word with Rachel about the accident. She was intoxicated, and unless Cooper wakes up and admits to driving the limo, she's screwed!

Nathan apparently is suffering post traumatic stress from the accident. He keeps having flashbacks to almost drowning, and stares at the news coverage on television. Haley's attempts to comfort him do no good. Haley goes to the hospital and puts the blame on Rachel, who's keeping vigil at coma Cooper's bedside. Haley hates her. She is screwed.

Peyton is in good spirits after her breakup with Brooke. Part of the reason for this: she's discovered  she has a half brother. A letter from the half brother(Derek)was hidden in one of those(many) records that Ellie left behind. She found it after her Big Blow up with Brooke, by golly!

Brooke catches Lucas hanging out with her former best friend. This is the last straw for her, and she breaks up with Lucas, hopefully for good this time. That plot is worn out.

CLIFFHANGER(S):  Mouth catches Rachel about to skip town, but manages to convince her to stick around(and maybe confess to her various misdeeds, like the time capsule release.) Lucas deals with his angst issues by writing about his life. That's why those voice overs were there! Haley is indeed pregnant, and Peyton's getting weird chat messages again! There's somethin' happenin' here, what it is ain't exactly clear.
