That title refers to how much time has passed since the last episode. Whoa. Looks like a lot of blanks to fill in.
The only member of our group to fulfill the promise to return to the river court four years later is Lucas. The court looks like it hasn't been used since then, because the graffiti our heroes sprayed is still there(albeit fade)and the blacktop is cracked and grassy. Sad.
The broken hoop represents broken dreams and missed opportunities(I'm assuming) |
Look at Haley, all sophisticated with her short hair and outfit! Nathan looks like crap, though. He's sporting shaggy hair and a scruffy beard. he would fit right in a 70's rock band. He seems very upset that little James(now known as Jamie)is playing with a basketball hoop/ But the biggest revelation..he's in a wheelchair!
Brooke's company, Clothes Over Bros, has apparently become a big thing. She's marching around a bustling office giving orders. She even has a cute assistant, Millicent Huxtable. Yes, that's her name. Brooke has her own magazine too! Each issue has her photo on the cover. She's like Oprah.
We meet Brooke's mother, Victoria. She bosses Brooke around, even going so far as to order Brooke to fire a model that Brooke is friends with. Could this person be Rachel? Despite Brooke's wealth and success, she sure seem lonely! She eats dinner all alone in her apartment.
Peyton did indeed get a job as a record company, and has worked her way up some kind of assistant job. She has lots of opinions on what music might be popular, due to her extensive knowledge, but the misogynist asshats surrounding Peyton treat her as a secretary and food delivery service.
Peyton and her boss have different outlooks on music in general: She believes that rock and roll can change the world, and this guy thinks kids just listen to it to get drunk and laid. Peyton goes out and sees reminders of her old life, like Brooke's face on the cover of a magazine.
Lucas and Skillz have gotten jobs coaching basketball at the high school. Lucas' book was published and seems to have been a success. His editor Lindsay bugs him about this second novel he's writing. Bad news though, Lucas has writer's block!
Mouth is unemployed and living with Skillz, Fergie and Junk. He spends his time putting together demo tapes to send to tv stations, in the hopes of getting his dream sportscaster job.
Haley has decided to make the world a better place by becoming a teacher. Things are tense with her and Nathan, as hinted at before. He's taken to drinking a lot and is blowing off going to physical therapy. He gets mad and throws things at his many trophies! Nathan and Haley seemed to have did well before Nathan's injury: they have a large house with a pool, purchased with "shoe contract money" that Nathan mentions in a brief flashback.
Speaking of Nathan's injury and flashbacks: Nathan got into an altercation in a bar with several rival team members in a bar. He was thrown through a window and glass was embedded deep in his lower back. At least they revealed it right away!
Peyton buys Lucas' book on tape and makes a tearful(and rambling)call to Brooke. She quits her shitty job and goes back to the river court in Tree Hill. She's a couple of days late, but Lucas is there anyway. He rejects her embrace , because he's involved with someone now. It's his editor, Lindsay!
A modern day warrior. Mean, mean stride. Peyton Sawyer, Mean, mean pride. |
