From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea(Season 3, Episode 2)

Nathan is being a a dick again! Lucas wants to be friends again, so Nathan offers a game of one on one for this privilege. Nathan easily bests Lucas, perhaps because he learned a bunch of new skills at that camp, or perhaps because of Lucas' pesky heart disease. Either way they're still not friends.

Haley is unaware that Nathan is back. She attempts to see him first at his house, where she is taunted by Dan. But Nathan is at the school gym, and Haley does some more groveling. She's sent Nathan letters. Lots and lots of letters that he didn't read.

Brooke is nice enough to let Haley move in with her, and has even renovated the place with new furnishings. The photo of Haley that Nathan painted over with bright pink remains, however. They will share payment of the rent. Haley's money situation is pretty murky. Sure she has her job at the diner back now, but does she get residuals from her hit song?

Peyton is still surly and becomes even more so when Ellie Harp(her real mother!) tells her she tried to make contact many years ago. Ellie was involved with drugs, and Larry tries to explain to Peyton that allowing a drug addict access to a child was a bad idea, but Peyton is too upset to listen to logic right now! Ellie has not turned over a new leaf-Lucas sees her buying drugs from a shady dude.

All the kids have a party at the beach to celebrate(mourn?) the end of summer. Brooke uses this to make Lucas jealous by cavorting with lifeguards. He's momentarily preoccupied by sulking Haley. He goes to the river court and warns Nathan that hurting Haley will result in physical pain. This tactic works because Nathan goes to the beach and talks to Haley. It's not a reconciliation though. He tells her to move on with her life for now.

Lucas lets Brooke know that it's okay to skinny dip with lifeguards, as long as she knows that he's the guy for her now, unlike that last time. Lucas and Haley walk away together while Brooke and Nathan look on in jealousy! That's what friends are for.
