Songs To Live And Die By(Season 4, Episode 10)

Lucas' spirit is trapped in a limbo like state between life and death. Keith appears and shows Lucas Haley's condition: she has broken legs, collapsed lung and head trauma. Lucas wonders what's the use of being a good person, if bad things always happen. Keith acts as a guide to show Lucas what things would have been like if he had been, well, not so nice.

Keith takes Lucas to the school, where we see Brooke sitting all alone. Only there's something different about her: not only is she all dressed in black like a goth person, but she lashes out in anger at Lucas when he tries to speak to her.  The "what if" Lucas didn't go back in the school the fay of the shooting, resulting in Peyton's death.

Nathan goes to the bridge and laments that he survived the crash. He yells at Keith for saving him. Keith tells Spirit Lucas that he had nothing to do with the limo rescue, it was solely Nathan that saved himself, Rachel and Cooper.

Keith shows Lucas the alternate version of Nathan's life: Haley stayed on the road with Chris Keller, because "what if" Lucas never went to talk to Haley to convince her to return home. Nathan is reduced to going to the record store and smashing Haley's albums. The vinyl ones! Not tapes or cds.

Peyton goes to her favorite place(the record store.)Peyton's friend, Max(the owner)comforts Peyton by giving her..records of course. Max is played by Mark Schwahn, creator of One Tree Hill!

Keith talks Lucas to his old garage, and reminds Lucas of the time Lucas submitted Peyton's sketches to that magazine. This made Peyton a better person. Remember when she was all surly and angry? She got better!

Keith has something REALLY important to tell Lucas, regarding the day of his death. But first, he goes to the prison to taunt Dan. Dan assurances that he's trying to make up for his crimes by taking care of Karen doesn't convince  Keith. He gives Dan the shock of life by making himself bleed from the eyes and mouth. Keith seems to imply that the little boy version of him may have been all in Dan's mind. I prefer to think it was actually him just screwing around.

Nathan is in the chapel, praying for a miracle for Haley, and sure enough it happens. It seems that Keith has a hand in this. Lucas asks Keith if Heaven exists, but Keith does not answer. He wants to go with Keith though, but Keith convinces him otherwise when he shows Lucas an old version of Peyton mourning at his grave. Keith shocks Lucas back to the real world by electrocuting him with a pair of jumper cables.

CLIFFHANGER(S): Haley's baby is okay, too! Because Haley has mutant type healing powers. Lucas remembers SOMETHING he saw in the school hallway the day of the shooting.

This episode was  an homage to  the film "It's A Wonderful Life." There are clips of the film throughout to hint at the connection.
