Like You Like an Arsonist(Season 3, Episode 1)

Debra, Nathan and Haley rush to the dealership, where they learn that Dan is alive! That explosion didn't kill him after all. Peyton reveals to Lucas the bombshell about her mother.  Which leads us to...THREE MONTHS LATER! You can tell that time has passed, because everyone has new hairstyles! This episode keeps alternating back and forth, from three months until now, for exposition purposes It's very clunky.

Brooke returns to see Lucas at the airport. She thinks he's waiting for her, but he's actually there to pick up his mother. Wait, were Brooke and karen on the same plane and Brooke didn't know it? That's wacky! Brooke and Lucas decide to have a "friends with benefits" relationship(similar to what she had with Felix). Has she learned nothing?

Peyton's father(Larry)is now played by a different actor. I hate when that happens. Only he's actually her step father! You see,  Larry and his wife adopted Peyton from Ellie as a baby. Peyton's real father was already out of the picture. Larry meant to tell Peyton the truth, but just never got around to it I guess. The show has completely changed Peyton's back story!

(Three months ago)We see how Haley did a lot of groveling in order to repair her relationship with Nathan. Nathan excoriated Haley for signing those annulment papers. You know, the ones he signed first. He's mad at Haley for "running away." Which isn't what happened at all.  Nathan doesn't care that Haley gave up a chance as a solo act to come home. He tells her he's leaving for the basketball camp, he's moved out of the apartment and put all of Haley's stuff in storage. Luckily Karen has a job opening at the cafe....

BUT WAIT! Another flashback. Haley goes into Nathan's bedroom and tries to make out with him in a last ditch attempt at reconciliation. Good grief.

(Present day)Nathan is still at the basketball camp, and the apartment is now being rented by Brooke. Peyton stops by to visit Brooke and goes on an angry tirade about Haley! Peyton says Haley abandoned her friends and family. Brooke Tells Peyton to get a grip!

OH,  THAT BROOKE!

Mouth helps Brooke move in.  He was with that Erica Marsh girl for a while but she dumped him after becoming popular. I assume that means she parties and gets drunk a lot, because that's how popularity is portrayed on One Tree Hill.

The dealership is being rebuilt. Dan suffered severe burns on back. He doesn't remember who attempted to kill him: he only recalls drinking from the poisoned bottle, passing out and then waking up outside. He's having nightmares about burning, and  stand around staring at a lighter flame. But the scary part is...

Dan goes to a church confessional. But instead of admitting his wrongdoings, he tells the priest he's going to "commit sins that would reduce the church to rubble." It's very apocalyptic.

Lucas has run out of his pills! He's having chest pains! Somebody call the doctor.

(Not only has Mark Schwahn has made Haley the bad guy in the whole "leaving town story," but he made her look as pathetic as possible while doing it. Yes, I can blame Mark Schwahn. He wrote the episode. I'm very annoyed!)

  1. Even if he hadn't have written it, you could blame Schwahn just the same as he's the showrunner & all storylines have to be okayed by him first.

  2. Indeed. There's so much there that contradicts what came before.

It was Nathan's idea for Haley to go on the road to begin with, and Peyton introduced her to Chris Keller which led to him meeting Haley.

Haley did kiss Chris, but Nathan made out with her sister and nearly slept with her. He's just as guilty as she is.

    1. Selective memory is commonplace in soaps/teen dramas anyway, so not all that surprising.

    2. The coma made Nathan forget those things. Yeah that's the ticket.
I think every major character gets the privilege of being in a coma at least once/
